About Yumemiya

Yumemiya brings the richness of traditional Japanese art and material into everyday life through it's unique collection of items which incorporate beautiful traditional fabrics, designs and techniques.

Begun in 1975 as an Atelier focusing on dyed flower creation, Yumemiya evolved throughout the years making dress ribbons, and raised cloth pictures of Chirimen (Japanese crepe) workmanship. In the early 1990's Yumemiya began expanding into more types of goods in the Japanese market, resulting in the collection of items available today. Their designs are available all over Japan in prestigious department stores such as Mitsukoshi and Takashimaya.

In addition to the fashion accessories available here, Yumemiya also produces a wide range of home interior decoration for the seasonal events of Japan. Girls Festival, Boys Festival, New Year and many more events each have special decorations which Yumemiya makes with their own style of chirimen. You may view these items on their Japanese website.

Yumemiya is based in the city of Uji, in the prefecture of Kyoto. Uji is known for old traditions, green tea production and some very beautiful shrines. Yumemiya operates a traditional gift shop and cafe inside of the Tales of Genji Museum there.

The Yumemiya logo incorporates a rabbit, which is beloved of the Japanese people and also refers to a road in Uji called Rabbit Road, the river which runs through Uji itself and the leaf which represents the name Iida, the last name of the company's founder. Keiko Iida, the founder, is the designer and fabrics such as La Japonaise, Hana Hitokoshi and Ruri Hitokoshi are her original designs.

You can also visit Yumemiya in the city of Kyoto where they have a company store and an Art Gift store in the JR Kyoto Isetan Department Store. The company store carries Yumemiya's collection and the Art Gift store gathers together art made by popular craftsmen based in Kyoto in a location that is easily reached by travelers and locals alike.

Yumemiya International Inc. which has an office in New York City is managed by Yumi Iida, the founder's daughter, and is bringing these beautiful items to markets in the United States and other nations where the Japanese aesthetic is enjoyed.
